The Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD) hosted a dedication and tour of its recently upgraded Lloyd W. Michael Water Treatment Plant on Oct. 20.

The upgrade project is the largest project the district has completed since the original construction of the treatment plant in 1989.

The ceremony included an overview of the project, a presentation by Assembly Member Marc Steinorth, a ceremonial ribbon cutting, and tours of the plant.

The event marked a district milestone “that signifies our ability to provide a reliable water supply to residents and business owners for many years to come,” said CVWD Board President James V. Curatalo, Jr.

CVWD has always met or exceeded strict health and water quality standards, but changes to the federal Clean Drinking Water Act required the district to add a process for improved water quality treatment. In addition to the required upgrades, CVWD added a 6 million gallon reservoir for increased onsite storage. Total project costs were just over $40 million for this flagship plant that provides water to nearly 200,000 CVWD customers.
