Sacramento, CA –The California Legislature passed ACR 68, authored by Assemblyman Marc Steinorth (R-Rancho Cucamonga), declaring October 2015 as “Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention Month.” ACR 68 received unanimous bipartisan support in both the Assembly and Senate.

“I am committed to the cause of defeating breast cancer, and that starts with promoting awareness and encouraging prevention,” said Steinorth. “Every effort to fight breast cancer makes a difference to the daughters, mothers, sisters, and friends that it affects. This resolution lets them know that California is behind them and that we are a partner in their fight.”

Breast cancer claimed the life of over 4,000 Californians in 2014, according to the American Cancer Society. Nearly 25,000 women in the state develop breast cancer every year, and an estimated one in eight women will at some point in their lifetime. Regular mammography, as recommended, is the most effective way to detect the disease and begin the treatment process.

“The goal of this resolution is not just supporting awareness, but also prevention of this disease,” said Steinorth. “Early detection dramatically increases the likelihood of survival. We want to ensure that anyone who develops breast cancer is not a victim, but a survivor.”

Assemblyman Steinorth represents the 40th Assembly District which includes Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino, Highland, Loma Linda, and Redlands.
